Greg Norman
What ever happen to The Great White Shark ( Greg Norman )???

Along with all the things stated above me, i believe the main reason that he isn’t playing much at all anymore is that he has always had a bad back, and that now that he is in his 50s it has gotten to the point to where he can’t play competitively anymore.

Faldo/Norman

Faldo/Norman

$11.99

Going into the final round of the 1996 Masters, Greg Norman led by six strokes. Having missed chance after chance throughout his career, this finally seemed to be year that the ‘Great White Shark’ would win the green jacket. But playing alongside him in the final pairing of the final day was the one man who always seemed to get the better of the Australian when it really mattered. What followed was one of the most excruciating collapses in sporting history. Faldo/Norman provides a blow-by-blow account of the riveting final round of the 1996 Masters over 18 chapters, weaving in the story of the entire tournament, the state of golf at the time, and the history of both players’ careers and rivalry. For a decade Norman and Faldo, in their different ways, dominated the game, and their epic meeting at Augusta would prove to be the end of a golfing era.

GREG AUSTIN - GREG AUSTIN

GREG AUSTIN – GREG AUSTIN

$16.71

Greg Austin is a down home, straightforward and to the point of the heart, singer/songwriter/ musician. For almost 15 years he has been diligently performing and writing contemporary country music for adoring fans. His first CD of original songs is aptly titled 'Greg Austin' and features 10 of his best originals to date. Born on July 29, 1974, Greg wrote his first song at the age of 14, and started performing professionally at the age of 15. He played solo and with various bands around his hometown of Aiken, SC as well as on the road for a number of years before finally deciding to make the move to Music City USA. He moved to Nashville in 1999 to pursue a songwriting and recording career and made a lot of progress before finally settling back down in Aiken where he resides now. Although his dream is to one day secure that ever elusive recording contract, Greg also enjoys writing songs for himself as well as other up and coming Artists, and most recently, he just signed his very first single song Publishing deal for his song 'Long Distance Lovers' and has interest in 4 more of his songs by a Nashville Publisher. He has also done demo work for hit songwriter, Jerry Vandiver, who cowrote the smash #1 single, 'For a Little While' for Tim McGraw. Greg is currently co-writing with some very talented lyricists and is actively pitching songs to Music Row publishers in hopes of securing a major artist cut. He admits that in today's country music format, it often helps to get your foot in the door as a new Artist if you can obtain a publishing deal first. So with that in mind Greg is concentrating on perfecting his writing abilities every chance he gets, while honing his singing and performing skills throughout the Southeast in nightclubs, casinos and festivals. In 2001, Greg's song 'Move a Mountain' was featured on MP3.com's syndicated radio show, 'Country Download' with Nick Upton and also was the Heineken Song of the Week for 2 weeks in a row. The song was also featured on a MP3.com compilation CD which was distributed to more than 1 million music subscribers throughout the US. Greg has been a featured Writer/Artist on a live Radio Broadcast on the Nashville Radio station WSM-650 AM. The name of the show is 'Opry Star Spotlight' with host Matt Gillian and features local and national talent every week. Greg has also opened for the 2000 CMA Duo of the Year, Montgomery Gentry at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, TN as a finalist in the 2001 Jim Beam Country Band Search. And more recently, he made it all the way to the Top 10 in the 'Nashville Star' regional finals held in Atlanta, GA and sponsored by USA Network and Sony Records. Not too shabby considering that over 500 promising singer/songwriters showed up for the initial auditions. With a commanding stage presence, a great Country voice and top notch songwriting to back it all up, Greg Austin is sure to have a winning formula for success in the Country Music Industry. Audio Mixer: Steve Fontano. Recording information: Prairie Sun Studios, Cotati CA; Prarie Sun Studios, Cotati, CA. Photographer: Jamie Miller. During the mid- to late '80s, talent scout and Shrapnel Records owner Mike Varney was the ultimate source for new high-tech guitar virtuosos in the post-Yngwie Malmsteen era (Malmsteen was also one of his finds). Among the dozens of young guns who emerged from Varney's stable, Greg Howe was one of the best. His debut album, Greg Howe, was groove-based, and favored funk and fusion flavors over gothic neo-classicism. It sounded fresh compared to the melodramatic work of peers like, say, Vinnie Moore. Front-loaded with two devastating tracks, "Kick It All Over" and "The Pepper Shake," Greg Howe is immediately engaging. Unlike other music in the note-heavy "shred" genre, these two pieces sound fun rather than academic; the irresistibly slippery grooves provided by the crack rhythm section of Atma Anur (drums) and Billy Sheehan (bass) provide a supple bed for Howe's playful fretwork. Unfortunately, the rest of the album falls off a bit after that. The remaining tracks have some interesting ideas and plenty of enthusiastic performances, but sound more like vamps for Howe's soloing than songs. A few premonitions of Howe's more fusion-based future reveal themselves on Greg Howe, although it's primarily a high-octane, indulgent rock romp. Worth hearing. ~ Andy Hinds

Greg Chappell was the outstanding Australian batsman of his generation. Though he had an appetite for big scores, it was his calm brow and courtly manner that bowlers found just as disheartening. When he followed his brother Ian into the Australian captaincy, his feat of scoring centuries in each innings of his captaincy debut has been unequalled. After retiring he went into coaching, spending some time with South Australia and working as a consultant at Pakistan’s National Cricket Academy. In 2005 he was appointed coach of the Indian national cricket team on a two year term – a stint that included a stormy public falling out with the captain, Sourav Ganguly. He has been Head Coach of Cricket Australia’s Centre of Excellence in Brisbane and in 2010 Greg Chappell was made Cricket Australia’s first full-time selector and National Talent Manager – a position of unequalled power. In this book Greg Chappell will reflect upon how things have changed since he grew up playing cricket in his backyard with his brothers Ian and Trevor; how Australia’s fortunes have see-sawed over the years; the great teams and the great players; the scandals and the opportunities. He has been a cricketer, captain, commentator and selector – he has seen it all.

Norman Expansion

Norman Expansion

$54.95

In the eleventh and twelfth centuries the Normans had a formative influence on the development of states and societies in the British Isles, southern Italy and the Levant. Their achievements still resonate powerfully today, and represent a vital field of historical study. But how far did colonial elites define themselves as Norman, and to what extent were they categorized as such by others? What were the defining attributes of the supremacies achieved by the Normans, and by other incomers associated with them, and how decisive and diverse was the impact of their influence on local power-structures and native societies? How readily did they reach accommodations with those societies, and how might their own identities be renegotiated within the context of cross-cultural encounters? And, in terms of the progress and practices of state-formation, what was the balance between ‘old’ and ‘new’? These are some of the key questions addressed in this collection of essays, which also treats the Normans as a genuinely European phenomenon. Norman activity in the British Isles and in the Mediterranean lands receives equal coverage; and the topics explored include identities and identification, marriage policies, acculturation, the pre-existing landscapes of power and how far they were transformed, castle-building strategies, the nature of frontiers, urban government, and law and legislation. This volume therefore serves both to illustrate and to open up for fresh debate many of the salient themes concerning the Norman experience of diaspora and settlement. At the same time, it seeks to underscore how the dynamics, character and consequences of Norman expansion – and the connections, continuities and contrasts – can better be appreciated by taking the wider Norman world, or worlds, as the focus for collective study.

The creator of Gor delivers a wide-ranging story collection, all previously unpublished, with a handful of directly Gor-related pieces and several more stories that involve Gor-like female slavery and submission. Many of the stories are philosophical monologues which play with existential and phenomenal ideas by discussing their philosophical underpinnings and their relation to the real world as observed with a philosophical mind-set. They are often without dialogue or even characters, merely thoughts, descriptions and speculations. Some could almost be lectures given narrative form. Some stories are SF, some are horror, some have mainstream settings. Among the characters in the various stories are a couple of talking frogs, a couple of independently-thinking computers, a fair number of philosophers and a number of clinical psychologists or psychiatrists, often analyzing or counseling computers or intelligent alien lifeforms.

NORMAN SAVITT - NORMAN SAVITT & FRIENDS

NORMAN SAVITT – NORMAN SAVITT & FRIENDS

$16

'Norman Savitt and Friends', has recently come out on the Balkan Samba Records Label, to much favorable critical acclaim. It features original instrumental music composed and performed by Norman Savitt on the acoustic guitar in various solos and duos. Produced by harmonica wizard Howard Levy at Levyland Studios in Evanston, IL, it features Grammy winner Howard Levy (Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, Paquito D'Rivera, Paul Simon) on harmonica (4 cuts), 4 time Grammy winner Eugene Friesen (Paul Winter) on cello (2 cuts), Music Legend David Amram (Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Leonard Bernstein, Bob Dylan) on penny-whistle (2 cuts), and the multi-talented Susan Mitchell (The Magges) on violin (1 cut). Artist contact: normansavitt@gmail.com ______________________________________ CD review from Sing Out! Magazine, vol.53#2, c2010 Sing Out! NORMAN SAVITT AND FRIENDS Balkan Samba 004 Savitt refers to himself as a "primitive guitar… player," but, as this Howard Levy-produced, instrumental package of originals makes abundantly clear, he's much more than that. Besides six compelling fingerstyle guitar solos (favorites are a relentlessly fluid, impressionistic "Waterfall," the melody-rich, slightly psychedelic "Ode to Kesey" and the introspective "Song My Paddle Sings"), Savitt is joined by Grammy Award-winning harmonica ace Levy, of B la Fleck and the Flecktones, on four cuts, including the wistful, coolly detached "Looking Back," a meditative "Blues for the Great Pyramid" (originally a folk song Savitt penned about occultist Madame H.P. Blavatsky) and the Middle Eastern-tinged "Blues for the Middle." Savitt is also assisted by the Paul Winter Consort's cellist Eugene Friesen on a baroque folk/jazz plea "Prayer for Peace" and on the deeply reflective "Final Farewell," as well as by acclaimed penny whistler David Amram on the expressively minimalistic "Alex at Six" and the celebratory, exclamatory "Alone." Violinist Susan Mitchell sits in on a single cut, "Blues for The Rev," which is creatively based on a series of Reverend Gary Davis guitar licks. Throughout, Savitt's guitar playing couldn't be more illustrative of the various moods and atmospherics he effortlessly conjures from piece to piece, solo or duo, with his fleet-fingered fretwork heartbeat resonant and clear as a bell. Also noted, and solidly in that vein, are a couple more Savitt solos – an intimate, rhythm-rich lament for his old pal, the late Chris Whitley, and an exuberant, chordally complex ode to Boulder, Colo. ("Return to Boulder"), where the guitarist spent a good deal of his youth. Worth searching out. – GvonT (Gary Von Tersch) ———————————————————————— [here are 3 other reviews of this CD:] NORMAN SAVITT DEBUTS HIS ORIGINALS ON SOLO GUITAR AND DUOS WITH GOOD FRIENDS I recently met Norman Savitt at a concert in Brooklyn when he offered me his CD to listen to. Personnel: Greg Brown (vocals, guitar); Gary Worden (percussion). Recording information: JR's Warehouse, Traverse City MI (06/1994). Brown has long been hailed as the folk poet laureate of the Midwest, and this live disc, recorded at a high-energy solo gig in Traverse City, MI, is proof. He runs through tunes that examine the hard facts of life with humor, passion and a fair amount of poetic skill. His gravelly, expressive voice and rhythmic no-nonsense guitar style serve him well on tunes that manage to stay on the right side of the sentimental line while still evoking a gut response to Brown's nostalgic recollections of his pastoral childhood, as on "Canned Goods."

The title perfectly summarizes this quintet date–hard bop and standards delivered professionally and competently by an experienced band. Greg Abate is a fluid alto and tenor saxophonist who executes the chord changes, progressions, and solos efficiently, while trumpeter Claudio Roditi adds some Afro-Latin spice and hot licks, and pianist Hilton Ruiz, bassist George Mraz, and drummer Kenny Washington keep the rhythmic center together. Mraz's bass sounds undermiked at times, but otherwise this date does exactly what it set out to: showcase jazz professionals comfortable in their environment and with their material.

Golf & Wine Legends Set - Wine Collection Gift

Golf & Wine Legends Set – Wine Collection Gift

$59.99

Wine Collection Gift by Wine.com. The perfect collection for wine and golf lovers. Three premium wines from the wineries of legendary golfers Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman and Ernie Els are paired with a sleeve of three golf balls. This collection is truly par excellence! Wine Set Includes: Arnold Palmer Cabernet Sauvignon The late golf legend Arnold Palmer, in collaboration with Luna Vineyards, had expanded his portfolio of privately branded offerings to include Arnold Palmer Wines. This is a classic California Cab – rich, smooth, and tasty! Greg Norman Limestone Coast Shiraz Fine wine is one of Greg Norman’s great passions, and Australian wine in particular. This passion and curiosity led him to launch Greg Norman Estates, a collection of wines from his native Australia. From the beginning, I have been committed to the promise that every bottle of my wine delivers exceptional quality and value. Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend Ernie Els is a true connoisseur of South Africa’s finest wines, and with a dedication to excellence, on and off the course, Els founded Ernie Els Winery in 1999, crushing its first vintage in 2000. His Stellenbosch winery receives acclaim and accolades every vintage for the range of quality wines produced. Sleeve of three Wine.com logo golf balls Printed insert that describes the featured wines Due to the popularity of this gift, wines or vintages sometimes sell out. Should this happen, we will always substitute with the current vintage and wines with equal or greater value.
